The first Blood Moon eclipse in a series of four happened on the night of April 14-15, 2014. The next one will be on the night of October 7-8, 2014. Within a year and a half, North America will be able to see a blood moon a total of four times. The moon takes on this color during the eclipse as it passes through the Earth's shadow, into which red light from the planet's sunrises and sunsets shines. According to NASA, the exact color depends on what is in the Earth's atmosphere. The four blood moons will occur in roughly six-month intervals on the following dates: April 15, 2014; October 8, 2014; April 4, 2015, and September 28, 2015. Christians speak of a lunar tetrad as representing a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. After all, the moon is supposed to turn blood red before the end times, isn't it? As described in Joel 2:31 (Common English Bible): The Jewish calendar is a lunar calendar. In any year, it's inevitable that a full moon should fall on or near the feasts of Passover (15 Nissan) and Tabernacles (15 Tishri). Nissan and Tishri are the first and seventh months of the Jewish calendar, respectively. It is somewhat ironic that three of these four lunar eclipses are not visible, even in part from Israel. The only eclipse that can be seen at all from Israel is the tail end of the September 28, 2015 eclipse, which may be observable for a short while before sunrise. Honey Moon and the Queen Reflect
Was chosen by CALB for display at the December 2014 CALB "Shades of Long Beach" exhibit in Long Beach California, Its for those Goosebumps events like this, is why I got into Photography. The June full Moon is nicknamed the Strawberry Moon or the Honey Moon. The June moon is frequently the one nearest to the summer solstice. Which falls on June 21st this year. Due to some cool galactic geometry, this means the full moon from Friday the 13th was the lowest in the sky for 2014. A very rare occurrence that won't happen again for 35 years. The last time it happened was 2000. What makes this such a rarity? It only occurs when three independent variable's line up. The moon phase, the week day and the day of the month. Here the Friday the 13th Honey Moon is rising over the majestic RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach California.

They Come Alive at Night
The Tufas of South Mono Lake seem to come alive at dusk as various faces... I was heart broken to see that we can walk in areas that were deep under water just three years ago. Even sadder to see parents who would not teach their kids to respect and preserve these rare gifts of nature and used them as a children's playground. Lets all be ambassadors for preserving these beautiful threatened structures,...

Sunrise Across The Sacred Land
This beautiful productive estuary was home to Native Americans as far back as 8,000 years ago. Between 6000 and 3500 B.C. a group of Native Americans lived in the area that are believed to be Hokan speaking and ancestors of the Chumash.
Spanish explorer Juan Cabrillo sailed the Southern California coast in 1542 in search of trade opportunities and a route to China. He met and befriended the Tongva living on Santa Catalina Island (Cabrillo had named the island San Salvador). Sixty years after Cabrillo explored the coast, Sebastian Vizcaino explored the California coast and also encountered Tongva. His reports said that the Natives he met were friendly and peaceful. Later accounts of the Native tribes were similar.
It wasnt until the early 1700s that the Spanish showed an interest in colonizing California. Conflicts with Russians and English led the Spanish to begin setting up missions, presidios (frontier fortresses) and pueblos (small towns). Father Junipero Serra arrived in California in 1769 and began the establishment of a chain of missions from San Diego to Sonoma. In 1771 a mission was established at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and was named Mission San Gabriel. All of the Tongva and Acjachamen were sent to these missions where many were killed by foreign diseases and smallpox epidemics. Those that survived lost much of their culture; their way of life was devastated. Subsequently, all native subjugates of the Mission were called Garbieli by the Spanish missionaries further damaging their unique cultural identities.
Promises to preserve this land to the American Indians has been repeatedly broken, contractors and politicians win.. There is only a small part that has been put aside as the sacred land for the American Indians and once again that is in jeopardy of devastation.. You only have to visit this magical place at sunrise to understand why the Indians stayed here and made this their sacred land..DawnReflectstheWetlandsBolsa ChicaCaliforniaCoastDenise DubeFine Art PhotographyGrins and Goosebumps PhotographynatureOrange County CaPhotography By Denise DubePlacesReligious meditave spritualshorelineSilhouetteSouthern Californiasunsrise duskwaterscape

The ISS flew right over this container ship as I was switching lenses to take this shot.
Part of this series will be on exhibit at MOLAA in October 2015. This Long beach Port #POLB is a rare inside look at the highly restricted and rarely photographed workings of the Port of Long Beach. I was invited for a third year to shoot the restricted areas Port of Long Beach at night,. Not an easy endeavor. On a moving boat, shooting moving boats at night and no tripods.
